Out For a moment my head above the study and propose an intervention Villari appeared on Modern Painting . It should be interesting, especially if contextualized in our here-and-now
"We have a wonderful disposition to the arts of design, which we use and abuse, but for most of us they are a great, a beautiful ornament, if you will, but no more than an ornament of the national culture [...] The philosopher, the historian, the man of letters, flyleaf very often as the subject away from their studies, no more than a pleasant and noble pastime. [...] But he is no doubt that the world is art, poetry, literature, music (I might add) and science, a form that grabs the intellectual life of a people?[...] I look at paintings, not only for what they value in themselves, but as manifestations of national culture as a means to promote it.[...] A long experience has made it clear today that the industry can not progress without the aid of two major forces: science and design. The study of art has therefore a double advantage, because it connects con la industria da un lato, e con la più alta cultura letteraria dall' altro. V'è egli una materia di pubblico insegnamento o di nazionale cultura che meriti maggiore attenzione?"
