BENEDETTO XVI
ANGELUS
Piazza San Pietro
Domenica, 20 febbraio 2011
Con queste parole, e i precetti che ne conseguono, the Lord asked the people who had chosen to be faithful to Him walking on the streets and social legislation based on the commandment "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Lev 19:18). If we listen, then, Jesus, in whom God took a mortal body to be the neighbor of every man and reveal his infinite love for us, we find the same call, the same audacious goal. He says, in fact, the Lord, "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect" (Mt 5:48). But who could become perfect? Our perfection is to live as children of God with humility actually doing his will.
(1 Cor 3:16). If we are really aware of this reality, and our lives are deeply molded, then our witness becomes clear, eloquent and effective. A medieval author wrote: "When the whole being of man is, so to speak, mixed love of God, then the splendor of his soul is reflected in appearance" (John Climacus, Scala Paradisi, XXX: PG 88, 1157 B), in the totality of life. "Great thing is the love - we read in the book The Imitation of Christ - a commodity that makes everything light and heavy quietly endures all things difficult. Love hopes to climb up, without being restrained by anything ground. It comes from God and only God can find rest "(III, V, 3).
Dear friends, tomorrow, February 22, will celebrate the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter. To him, the first of the apostles, Christ himself entrusted the task of teacher and pastor for the spiritual leader of the People of God, so that it can rise up to heaven. I therefore urge all pastors to "assimilate the" new way of life "which was inaugurated by the Lord Jesus and is taken up by the Apostles" (Letter Year Convocation of Priests). We invoke the Virgin Mary, Mother of God and the Church, that teach us to love one another and to welcome come fratelli, figli dello stesso padre celestial.
Dopo Angelus:
[Saluti varies in ling: I cordially greet the pilgrims, particularly francophone students graduate college-Charles Peguy Bobigny. Dear friends, the readings for this Sunday are directing us to the joy of reconciliation. The Lord invites us to ask resolutely concrete acts of forgiveness, love for the next owner is able to change the world order by refusing his wisdom and false idols that we offer. May the Holy Spirit who dwells within us is a source of insight, strength and generosity to bear witness to the truth de l’Evangile dans notre vie quotidienne! Je souhaite à tous un bon séjour!
I offer heartfelt greetings to all the English-speaking visitors present at today’s Angelus! In particular I greet the young singers from the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in London. The Cardinal’s motto, “Amare et Servire”, is a beautiful expression of the Christian way of life. We are all called to love unconditionally, as today’s Gospel reminds us, and to place ourselves generously at the service of our neighbour. Upon everyone here today, and upon your families and loved ones at home, I invoke God’s abundant blessings.
Mit Freude heiße ich alle deutschsprachigen Pilger und Besucher willkommen. In today's Gospel, the Lord tells his disciples: "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matt. 5:44). So we become sons of our Heavenly Father and make him visible to the people: our generosity that goes into its data on the normally experienced, and that pure sincerity that opens our eyes to God. The Lord wants us to ask who give away nothing of the love in your way. He has given us an example, because he loved his family with a love has that knew no bounds and went to the extreme and leaves. In this love he would strengthen us all and fill you and your family with his grace.
